Restoration of a roof cistern in the Park of the Murgia Matera (ITALY)
Author: IPOGEA for ITALCEMENTI Spa
In the Park of the Murgia Materana in the South of Italy there is a roof cistern that was restored with traditional techniques by IPOGEA and Italcementi Spa.
The cistern dates back to the 1800s and is made of calcarenite blocks. It consists in an underground vaulted room for collecting water covered by a span-roof that emerges from the ground level, the mouth of the well for harvesting water and a basin for the animals.
The restoration was carried out using traditional techniques.
